First time set-up

Now that you have installed Prestashop, you can log-in the first time. Open your web browser and type in your domain name followed by admin, orif you changed the name of admin during install, (which we stongly recommend) enter that name. We'll assume your admin folder was named admin123.

You will now have the login screen

Enter the email address and the password you created during the installation of Prestashop and click the "connection" tab.

The Prestashop backOffice will now load with a default screen showing some basic statistical data. The BackOffice has a range of primary and secondary tabs. Before you can launch Prestshop, there are a number of setting and configuration options that need to be set-up as a minimum. The minimum settings you need to change include;

1. Tools>>Language (to set your default language and install additional languages)
2. Tools>>CMS (To add and edit your about us, terms and contact information pages)
3. Tools>>Contact (Who emails are sent to when your visitors slect the contact link on your site)

4. Preferences>>Appearance (Where to add your company logo and change your design themes)
5. Preferences>>Contact (Your stores main contact information)
6. Preferences>>Localization(Your stores unit of measure for product weights)
7. Preferences>>Products (set the stock and tax and display rules for products )

8. Payment>>currencies (Set your default curency and specify what other currencies, if any should be used)
9. Payment>>tax (Set your tax rules)

10. Shipping>>Various tabs (rules for setting up zones, countries, shipping by price or weight) The order will depend on what options you need implemented but typically you wouls set zone, then country, states, by product or by weight, carriers and the set up handling and fees by zone/carrier etc

11. Catalog>>manufacturers
12. Catalog>>suppliers
13. Catalog>>attributes (The attributes to apply to your products  -Yoiu may prefer to complte this once products are added and your familair with the store)
14. Catalog>>features (The features to apply to your products  -Yoiu may prefer to complte this once products are added and your familair with the store)
15. Catalog>>categories
16. Catalog>>products

17. Modules  -(install modules, set configuration and the positions where these modules should be displayed)

You can set-up the preferences options or the tools options first, but then follow the above order

Its a good idea, to test often and make sure your settings are working at each stage. If you simply set everything up, install lots of modules and cofigure various setting and then find you have a problem, its much hardere to know what you changed to cause the problem in the first place)
