When you select (click) the catalog tab, you will be presented with a screen with two core sections displayed, “Categories” which will list all you current categories and allow you to edit existing or add new categories and below this “Products in this category” which displays all the products for the active category (And products are what we are interested here). When you first load this page the default category is “home” and thus the products displayed will be active in the home category. (See below)
Information / Add a new product
Click "Add a new product" and the following screen is displayed. (In fact this is only part of the screen, we will cover the second half in a bit).
Name: Enter the name you want to call this product
Having entered the default category we can now have a look at the search optimisation and the actual description text we want for our product.
Featured Products on Home Page
You can use the Home category tickbox to add highlight certain products on your Prestashop homepage in addition to their main category.
To add a Featured Product to your Front Office homepage simply mark the Home checkbox in the category catalog section for the product you are adding or editing (as shown above).
Click Save. This item will now display in the Featured Products section of your Front Office homepage. (using the default Features products module)
Note: In the default Theme, the maximum number of Featured
Products displayed at any one time is ten (10). To change this, go to
Back Office >> Modules >> Featured Products on the homepage
module >> Configure.
* To remove a Featured Product from the shop homepage, unmark the Home
checkbox in the Catalog section of its admin Product Page.
Search Engine tags
Click the "Click here to improve product's rank in search engines (SEO)". This will expand the display as next image

Next we will enter the description and tags
Short Description: Enter a short description for your product.

Accessories: Use the accessories drop down to select products you have created that would be an accessory to this product

Its not essential that you save at this point, but I recommend that you do. Clicking save will update the page, but still leave you on your product page.
Tips: From v1.1, you now have two tabs, "Save and stay" or "Save abd back to category". using "Save and stay" will allow you to update chanegs and continue to edit the page. This makes sense since it can take a while to create a new product and add the required attributes and features etc. So using "Stay and Save"avoids losing all your work if something goes wrong.
Short descriptions are set to 360 characters as default. When these descriptions are quite long it can look messy on the homepage featured products or cause problems for the buttons. To change the amout of text that can be displayed in the short description, edit the product-list.tpl file in your themes and change the default 360 value in trucate to what you require, e.g 60 as the code line below.

Known Bugs (v1.1)
Be aware that in Prestashop version 1.1 there is a bug that stop you being able to delete accessories that you have added. Until this is fixed, if you have added an accessory, you will need to edit that database table "ps_accessory" manually and remove the entry.
